Does LocalChat require an internet connection?+
No. Once the app and a model are installed, LocalChat runs entirely on-device and keeps working offline — on a plane, or anywhere ChatGPT and Claude are blocked.
Is my data private and secure?+
Yes. 100% of your messages are processed on-device. There's no account and nothing is uploaded, so there's nothing for anyone else to see.
Which AI models can I use?+
A curated catalog of 25+ on-device models covering reasoning, vision, OCR, image generation and embeddings — plus any GGUF model from Hugging Face, added by URL or drag-and-drop.
How much storage space do I need?+
It depends on the model you pick. The catalog ranges from around 0.3 GB for Gemma 3 1B up to about 19 GB for Qwen3-VL 30B.
What Macs are supported?+
LocalChat runs on Apple Silicon Macs, and every model in the catalog is tested on Apple Silicon.
