Consul

Consul is a Mac menu bar app that converts files the moment you change their extension. Rename photo.heic to photo.jpg or song.wav to song.mp3 and Consul quietly does the conversion for images, video, audio and documents. Add suffixes to do more: +min shrinks images, videos, audio and PDFs, +5mb targets a size under 5 MB, +mute removes video audio and +speed2x speeds up a clip. It can also crop, rotate and remove backgrounds from images, and transcribe audio and video to text or subtitles on-device. Consul watches your Desktop, Downloads, external drives or the whole system, lets you set quality, codecs and metadata, and keeps backups of originals so any conversion can be undone. Everything is processed locally with no uploads or tracking. Key Features: - Rename to Convert: change the extension and the file converts - Smart Suffixes: +min, +5mb, +mute and +speed2x - Image Tools: crop, rotate and remove backgrounds - On-Device Transcription: audio and video to text or subtitles - Safe Undo: originals backed up, everything processed locally Consul is a clever, invisible file converter for the Mac, priced at $19 one-time for one Mac or $29 for three.
